Ramadan Day 25 - “…For Allah is Rich, and you’re poor…” [47:38]

April 16, 2023

This Ramadan so many different ayats have had an effect on me that left me so vulnerable in the best sense of the word. Vulnerable to the one to whom my vulnerability is best shown to. And today the ayah I found myself repeating during Qiyamu-layl & later during my recitation was the last ayah of Surah Muhammad [47].

Specifically the part of the ayah where Allah says: “…For Allah is the Self-Sufficient, whereas you stand in need ˹of Him˺...” In other translations: “For Allah is rich (free of all need), and you (mankind) are poor…”

How many times, have I sat running numbers through mind when I wanted to give in charity. And Allah is saying here He ﷻ is rich and we’re poor. I felt Allah saying to me, give without fear, do not withhold because what you give is really what stays. And He is Ar-Razzaq (The Provider), Al-Ghaniyy (The Rich, The Independent One, The Self-Sufficient, The Wealthy).

Another part of this that overwhelmed my heart was the sudden feeling I had that felt like all burdens had been lifted off my shoulders. Reciting “And Allah is Rich and You’re poor,” in it I could hear a reassurance from my creator, do not worry about your provisions, for Allah is Self-Sufficient and if I come to Him in need then I am taken care of.

Ya Allah, here I am, Your poor servant, humbly calling upon You with Your noble name Al-Ghaniyy, make me among those who give in charity in haste and not reluctantly. Ya Ghaniyy Ya Rahman, provide for me and do not deprive me. Ya Rabb by Your Mercy build for me with You a house in Jannah. Ya Rahman Ya Rabbil ‘Alamin, O most Merciful Lord of the Worlds. Amin.

With love, Ibtisam
